Our step-by-step approach

SamSam is happy to assist you. We'll calculate if solar panels are cost-effective for you, and we do it for free. Convenient, isn't it?!

Step 1

Initial feasibility check for your energy system

With data received from yourself we will conduct an initial feasibility assessment for your energy system. This involves creating a personalised load profile of your energy consumption and an initial PV system model with optional back-up storage, referred to as the ‘Roofcheck’. The Roofcheck assesses available space, potential orientations, shading impacts, and more.
This provides us with a first indication of potential yield versus your energy needs.
Is your situation suitable for solar and is a cost-effective solution at hand? If so, let's move on to step 2.

Step 2

We'll come by for a visit

We will contact you to schedule a meeting to futher introduce SamSam, measure the roof, inspect the current electrical situation, look at specific energy users and advise on how to apply essential and non-essential loads if required. We'll delve into the principles behind the proposed system and present a financial model detailing costs and returns. You'll receive a customised proposal right away, right at your own kitchen table.

With your consent, we'll administer specific details such as the type of meter, distribution board, roofing specifics, ideal placements for installations like inverters and potential batteries, most likely cabling routes, accessibility for installation, etc. These will be summarised in a take-in report essential for us to advance to the subsequent phase.

Step 3

Work preparation

Do you feel confident of SamSam’s approach, and do you agree on our offer? Great!

When an agreement has been established. We will then start the process of the SSEG application and sending it to the required organisations and any other permits that might be required. We make sure to cover everything required to prepare for the installations, so that you don’t have to worry about anything.

Step 4

Installation & commissioning

Once all is in place, we'll schedule the installation appointment. Depending on your system's size, this could span a single day or extend over several days—prior notice will be provided regarding the expected duration.

Upon completion, rigorous testing and commissioning will ensure your system meets the necessary standards. Our licensed wireman will perform a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) during this commissioning phase. When everything operates as anticipated, congratulations are in order for your fully operational solar installation!

Frequently Asked Questions about solar panels

How do I know if my roof is suitable?

This will be explained during the telephone intake with one of our friendly colleagues. During this conversation, we will assess if your roof is suitable and if installing solar panels is cost-effective for your situation.

What can SamSam do for you?

SamSam provides you with 100% honest advice. This way, you know exactly what your returns and costs are. Clear and transparent, without fine print. Thanks to our experience in solar power systems, we can advise you on the best options for your specific situation. We take care of everything for you, from design to service throughout the entire lifespan of your solar system.

What if the sun isn't shining?

No worries! While solar panels generate the most electricity when the sun is shining, they still produce power on cloudy days.

Does the yield of solar panels decrease as they get older?

Yes, the efficiency of solar panels can gradually decrease over time as they age. This is often referred to as “panel degradation” or “efficiency decline.” However, most reputable solar panel manufacturers provide warranties that guarantee a certain level of performance over a specified number of years. It’s important to choose high-quality panels and install them properly to minimize degradation and ensure a longer lifespan for your solar system. Regular maintenance can also help maintain optimal performance.

Do I need to maintain my solar panels?

Yes, it’s advisable to perform regular maintenance on your solar panels to ensure they continue to operate efficiently. Maintenance typically involves cleaning the panels to remove dirt, dust, and debris that can accumulate on the surface, which can reduce their efficiency. It’s also essential to check for any potential shading issues, loose connections, or damaged components. While solar panels are generally low-maintenance, routine inspections and cleaning can help maintain their optimal performance over the long term.

Do my solar panels need to be grounded?

It is generally recommended to ground your solar panels. Grounding helps prevent electrical hazards and ensures the safety of your solar system. Proper grounding can help dissipate any electrical faults or surges that may occur. It’s important to follow local electrical codes and regulations, and it’s usually best to consult with a qualified electrician or solar installer to ensure your solar panels are correctly grounded in accordance with local guidelines.

Can solar panels be installed on a flat roof?

Certainly. The panels are then arranged in an east-west orientation or a south orientation, depending on the type of roof. A flat roof requires panels with ballast and wind screens, ensuring that the panels stay in place even during heavy storms.

How many solar panels can be installed on a flat roof?

This depends on the roof’s surface area, of course. Typically, there is a margin of about 50 cm from the roof edge. On a 20 m2 flat roof, you can fit approximately 10 panels measuring 100 x 165 cm. The estimated yield in this example is around 3200 kWh per year.

Does SamSam have experience with solar panels on a flat roof?

Yes, nearly half of all our installations involve a flat roof. Therefore, we are well-versed in properly balancing ballast, orientation, and yield, especially when it comes to a flat roof.

What are the dimensions of SamSam's panels?

Our panels have a standard size of approximately 104 cm by 180 cm. The exact size may vary depending on the power rating: the higher the power, the larger the panel. In principle, an offer is possible for any type of roof – flat, sloped, or with dormers.

With which brand of solar panels does SamSam work?

We work with various types of panels. SamSam is a Enphase partner, which has the significant advantage that we can offer longer warranties than competitors. Most of our panels come with a 35-year warranty.
